Suriya May Team Up With Mani Ratnam for New Big-Budget Film

In the film industry, success and failure often go hand in hand. While some are quick to write off a star after a string of setbacks, Tamil star Suriya has once again demonstrated how a strong comeback can change the narrative.

After facing a challenging phase at the box office, Suriya has enjoyed a remarkable turnaround this year. His resurgence began with Karappu, a fantasy action drama directed by RJ Balaji. Released in May, the film reportedly grossed over ₹300 crore worldwide, emerging as one of the actor’s biggest commercial successes and reaffirming his market strength.

The momentum continued with Viswanath and Sons, directed by Venky Atluri and released on August 14. Starring Mamitha Baiju as the female lead, the family entertainer struck a chord with both mass and class audiences and went on to cross the ₹200-crore mark at the box office.

With two major successes already under his belt, Suriya is now gearing up for Scene, directed by Jeethu Madhavan of Aavesham fame. The recently released glimpse of the film received an enthusiastic response, and industry buzz suggests that the Diwali release, scheduled for November 6, could help the actor score a hat-trick of hits.

Meanwhile, a fresh report doing the rounds on social media has generated excitement among fans. According to industry buzz, legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam is planning a major project with Suriya in the lead role. Discussions are reportedly underway, and the film could go on floors after the director completes his ongoing project, Inji Vellam.

Interestingly, reports suggest that Mani Ratnam had discussed the story with Suriya nearly eight years ago. The project, which did not materialise at the time, is now said to be undergoing changes to suit current trends before being narrated to the actor again.

Suriya and Mani Ratnam previously worked together in Yuva, a film that received widespread appreciation. If the actor gives his nod to the revised script, the much-anticipated combination could finally become a reality. However, an official announcement is still awaited.
