Keerthy Suresh’s Dorothy is headed to Telugu theaters, with the dubbed version reportedly scheduled for release on October 2.

The Karthik Subbaraj directorial opened in Tamil on September 25. Current theatrical listings identify the version now playing as Tamil, while Telugu media reports say the Telugu edition will arrive a week later.

The separate Telugu release gives the film another opportunity to reach audiences familiar with Keerthy from her extensive work in Telugu cinema, including her National Award-winning performance in Mahanati.

Keerthy, meanwhile, has addressed an unusual aspect of her role in the film: although Dorothy is named after her character, she does not have extensive screen time.

Speaking during the film’s promotions, the actress described Dorothy as a subtle character whose importance to the narrative is much greater than the length of her appearance. She said she was aware from the outset that the role was relatively brief but was drawn to its significance within the story.

Set in rural Tamil Nadu in the early 1990s, Dorothy centers on two childhood friends growing up amid caste divisions, violence and entrenched ideas of masculinity. Dorothy’s entry into their lives challenges the prejudices around them and becomes crucial to the direction their story takes.

The film stars Sananth and Rishikanth alongside Keerthy.

Dorothy is Karthik Subbaraj’s 10th feature as a director and also marks his first full-film collaboration with composer Ilaiyaraaja. The filmmaker has described the project as a story particularly close to his heart.

Before its theatrical release, Dorothy had its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, giving the film an early North American showcase.

The film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, with Jio Studios, Sikhya Entertainment and Dhammam Films associated with the production.

With the Tamil version already in theaters, the reported October 2 Telugu release will now bring Dorothy to Keerthy’s Telugu audience. An official production-house announcement confirming the Telugu release date, however, was not available at the time of publication.
