Sundeep Kishan's upcoming film Karikaala is planned as a two-part franchise, with the second instalment set for release on October 28, 2027. Prabhas' Spirit is also expected to arrive in theatres on October 29, 2027, setting the stage for a potential box office clash between two Telugu pan-India films during Diwali.

Karikaala is directed by Yugandhar Muni, who gained recognition with Shambhala. Catherine Tresa, Gayatri Bharadwaj and Sakshi Madolkar play the female leads. Mahidhar Reddy and Rajasekhar Annabhimoju are producing the film, whose shooting recently began on a grand scale. Sri Charan Pakala, who composed the music for Shambhala, is also handling the music for Karikaala. The project marks his 58th film as a music director.

Speaking about the film, director Yugandhar Muni said it would unfold like a beautiful fairy tale. He also revealed plans to create a new fantasy world featuring realms such as the Naga Lokam and Vanara Lokam.

The first part of Karikaala is scheduled to release on July 2, 2027, while the second part is planned for October 28, 2027, as a Diwali release. The makers reportedly locked the release dates for both instalments even before the film went on floors and planned the launch and shooting schedules accordingly.

However, the release of Spirit on October 29, just a day after Karikaala 2, could create competition between the two films. Both projects are being positioned as pan India releases, making the Diwali 2027 box office race particularly interesting.

More films could also join the festive release window in the coming months. The close release dates could pose a challenge for the Karikaala team as both films seek to attract audiences across multiple languages.
