Actress Janhvi Kapoor has finally addressed the controversy surrounding her role in Ram Charan's Peddi, acknowledging concerns over the objectification of her character and the film's portrayal of women. Speaking on Koffee With Karan Season 9, the actress admitted that she could have done more to address the issues.

Janhvi explained that she was hesitant to discuss the controversy because several people had worked hard on the film. However, she said she felt responsible for her contribution to a narrative that could negatively influence society, particularly in its portrayal of women.

The actress acknowledged that she could have been more vigilant and raised stronger objections during the filmmaking process. She also agreed that the portrayal was problematic, involved extreme objectification and risked normalising sexual assault through its narrative. Janhvi added that the experience would remain a lesson for her and that she would ensure she did not find herself in a similar situation again.

She further explained the challenges actors face while working under a director's vision, particularly when they are expected to maintain professionalism and follow instructions. According to Janhvi, scripts in the South Indian film industry do not always include detailed scene descriptions or camera angles, making it difficult for actors to anticipate how certain scenes will appear on screen.

Despite these challenges, Janhvi stressed that she must take responsibility for her part in the controversy. She acknowledged that her privileged position could have allowed her to speak up more firmly and influence decisions during production.

Her candid remarks have brought renewed attention to the responsibility filmmakers and actors share in portraying women on screen and addressing concerns about objectification in cinema.
