Akhil Akkineni’s Next: Boyapati Srinu-Geetha Arts Rumor Gains Buzz

A rugged new look has added to speculation over Akhil’s seventh lead film, but the reported Boyapati Srinu, Geetha Arts and DSP combination has not been officially announced.

Akhil Akkineni said his future choices would be performance-driven. “I need my film to challenge me,” he said, adding that he did not want to pursue “anything surface level” over the next few years.

Akhil Akkineni is back at the center of casting and director speculation following the commercial turnaround delivered by Lenin, but the latest talk surrounding his next film needs to be treated with caution.

Industry chatter is linking Akhil with director Boyapati Srinu for what would be the actor’s seventh film as a lead, commonly referred to online as “Akhil 7.” The same reports claim that Allu Aravind’s Geetha Arts could back the project and that Devi Sri Prasad may compose the music.

As of August 22, however, there has been no official announcement from Akhil, Boyapati Srinu or Geetha Arts confirming the combination, producer or music director. Recent reporting on Akhil’s next move has instead indicated that he has been considering more than one script and has yet to formally reveal his post-Lenin project.

The speculation has picked up at a time when a fresh rugged image of Akhil is being circulated on Telugu cinema social media. The look — featuring a heavier beard, moustache, changed hairstyle and an earring — has prompted fans to wonder whether another physical transformation is underway. There is currently no verified indication, however, that the appearance is connected to Boyapati’s film or any other specific project.

Akhil enters this phase with considerably more momentum than he had after Agent. Lenin, directed by Murali Kishor Abburu and co-starring Bhagyashri Borse, opened in theaters on July 10. The production team claimed a worldwide gross of more than ₹61 crore during its opening weekend, while trade estimates tracked separately by The Indian Express showed a strong domestic weekend as well. Akhil subsequently described the film’s reception as an important emotional breakthrough in his career.

In his post-release interview with SCREEN, Akhil also made clear that his future choices would be performance-driven. “I need my film to challenge me,” he said, adding that he did not want to pursue “anything surface level” over the next few years.

The reported Geetha Arts association would have several interesting precedents if it materializes. The banner produced Naga Chaitanya’s 100% Love and later Thandel. Akhil himself has already worked within the same production ecosystem: his 2021 film Most Eligible Bachelor was produced by GA2 Pictures, with Allu Aravind presenting the film.

Boyapati, too, has history with Allu Aravind’s banner. He directed Allu Arjun in the 2016 action entertainer Sarrainodu, produced under Geetha Arts.

For now, though, a Boyapati–Akhil collaboration remains an industry report rather than a confirmed project. Until the actor, director or production house makes an announcement, the Geetha Arts and Devi Sri Prasad details should also be regarded as unverified.

Meanwhile, Lenin has moved beyond its theatrical run to streaming. ZEE5 Global lists the film from August 7, giving overseas Telugu audiences another way to catch Akhil’s latest release.
