Telugu Groups Plan Ganesh Chaturthi Events Across Atlanta, NY, California

Telugu community organizations in several parts of the United States are preparing family-oriented Ganesh Chaturthi programs this month, with clay-idol workshops scheduled in Georgia and New York on September 12 and larger community celebrations planned in California on September 19.

Ganesh Chaturthi falls on Monday, September 14, in 2026, placing the September 12 programs immediately before the festival and the September 19 celebrations during the broader Ganeshotsav period.

In metro Atlanta, the Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta is organizing a free Ganesh clay-idol-making program for families on Saturday, September 12, from 2 pm to 5 pm at DeSana Middle School in Alpharetta. According to organizer information provided for the event, clay kits and materials will be supplied, with one idol-making station available per family and advance registration encouraged because capacity is limited.

DeSana Middle School's official website confirms the venue at 625 James Road in Alpharetta. TAMA, which says it was established in 1981, regularly organizes Telugu cultural, festival and community programs in the Atlanta area.

In New York, the Telugu Literary & Cultural Association is promoting an eco-friendly Sri Ganesha-making program at 3.30 pm Saturday, September 12, at the Narayanswamy and Kamalamma Badhey TLCA Telugu Bhavanam in Levittown. The event flyer emphasizes hands-on idol making with natural clay and sustainable materials and says participants can take their handmade Ganesha home.

The venue itself represents a relatively new milestone for the New York-area Telugu community. TLCA says it inaugurated Telugu Bhavanam at 1 North Village Green in Levittown in May 2025 as a permanent community and cultural center.

In California, Telugu Association of Southern California is meanwhile preparing its Vinayaka Utsavam for Saturday, September 19, at Sanatan Dharma Temple in Norwalk. Promotional material describes family puja, cultural programs, traditional lunch, a carnival, Rathotsavam and Nimajjanam.

TASC's official website currently lists the program from 3 pm to 8 pm at Sanatan Dharma Temple. The association's website confirms the September 19 date and venue, but participants should check with TASC for the final start time before traveling.

Farther north, Namaste Bay Area and Bolly 92.3 FM are promoting a large Ganesh festival in San Ramon on September 19. The event is scheduled from noon to 10 pm at 2700 Camino Ramon, near City Center Bishop Ranch, and organizers say admission is free and open to the public.

The San Ramon program is advertised as combining religious observances with cultural and family activities, including Ganesh Sthapana and aaratis, a dhol-tasha procession and visarjan, music and dance performances, a food festival, shopping, children's activities and an art competition.

Taken together, this year's programs illustrate the different ways Telugu and broader Indian communities in the United States are observing Ganesh Chaturthi — from small, hands-on clay workshops designed for children and families to daylong public festivals combining worship, food and cultural performances.
