Telangana Plans to Acquire 27,500 Acres for Industries Around Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Telangana is moving to assemble a large land bank for new industries, with the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) proposing the acquisition of more than 27,500 acres across 22 districts.
Between December 2023 and June 2026, TGIIC sent proposals to the Revenue Department for acquiring more than 27,500 acres, of which over 8,080 acres has been acquired so far, according to available data.
A significant share of the proposed acquisition is concentrated in districts surrounding Hyderabad, reflecting growing demand for industrial land in and around the state capital.
Vikarabad accounts for the largest proposed acquisition at 5,051 acres, followed by Rangareddy with 5,011 acres, Sangareddy with 4,161 acres, Medak with 3,331 acres and Medchal-Malkajgiri with 2,316 acres. Of these proposed totals, 1,819 acres has been acquired in Vikarabad, 1,771 acres in Rangareddy, 2,708 acres in Sangareddy, 137 acres in Medak and 428 acres in Medchal-Malkajgiri.
Together, Vikarabad and Rangareddy alone account for proposals covering more than 10,000 acres.
Elsewhere in Telangana, proposals cover 2,062 acres in Adilabad, 818 acres in Nalgonda, 562 acres in Narayanpet, 416 acres in Mahabubnagar and 344 acres in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri.
More than 1,140 companies propose Rs 94,000 crore in investments
The push to secure additional land comes amid a growing pipeline of industrial investment proposals in Telangana.
Between December 2023 and June 2026, more than 1,140 companies proposed investments exceeding Rs 94,000 crore, according to the report. TGIIC allotted about 2,400 acres to these companies.
The proposed projects are expected by the companies to generate about 85,000 jobs. These figures represent projected employment associated with the investment proposals and should not be interpreted as jobs already created.
Demand for industrial land spans pharmaceuticals and chemicals as well as renewable energy, industrial parks, IT facilities, food processing and engineering. Around Hyderabad, demand has also been reported from manufacturing, e-commerce warehousing, data centers and the defense and aerospace supply chain.
Telangana sees rise in industrial investment proposals
Industrial investment proposals have also accelerated in the current financial year.
Citing Telangana Industries Department data, The New Indian Express reported that 1,172 industrial units had received approvals in 2026-27, involving proposed investments of Rs 16,384.5 crore and an estimated 30,511 jobs.
That compares with 2,163 units approved during the full 2025-26 financial year, representing proposed investments of Rs 10,237.08 crore and projected employment of 51,029.
Statewide, approvals have been granted to 30,040 industrial units involving proposed investments of more than Rs 2.62 lakh crore and estimated employment exceeding 810,000, according to Industries Department data cited in the report.
The figures refer to proposed investments and projected employment. They do not necessarily mean that all the investment has already been deployed or that all the projected jobs have been created.
Industrial expansion extends beyond Hyderabad
Telangana is also seeking to broaden industrial activity beyond the Hyderabad metropolitan region.
Textiles and food processing are among the sectors expanding in areas such as Warangal, Khammam, Nizamabad and Karimnagar, while Sangareddy continues to attract manufacturing investment, according to Industries Department sources cited in the report.
The scale of TGIIC's proposed land acquisition indicates the amount of land the state is seeking to make available for future industrial development. However, the 27,500-acre figure represents proposed acquisition, not land already acquired. Available figures put actual acquisition so far at more than 8,080 acres.
