Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir, Shirdi
Shirdi in Maharashtra became one of India's great pilgrimage centres through the life of Sai Baba of Shirdi, the spiritual master who lived there for much of his life and taught faith, patience, charity and religious harmony. His celebrated teachings are encapsulated in Shraddha and Saburi—faith and patience.
Sthala Mahatmyam
Unlike the ancient puranic kshetras, Shirdi's sanctity derives principally from Sai Baba's life and presence there. Tradition records his association with places including the Neem tree at Gurusthan, Dwarkamai mosque and Chavadi. Sai Baba attained Mahasamadhi in 1918 and his mortal remains were interred in what became the Samadhi Mandir. Devotees regard Shirdi as a place where Baba's spiritual presence continues to answer sincere prayer.
Getting there
Fly to Mumbai (BOM) or Pune (PNQ) and continue by road or rail; Shirdi airport (SAG) is closer but domestic service can change. Sainagar Shirdi railway station and Shirdi bus stand serve pilgrims; Kopargaon and Manmad offer additional rail connections. From the airport or station use a prepaid/verified taxi. Reserve extra time for busy Thursdays and holidays.
Darshan, booking and time on site
The Sansthan offers darshan, aarti, puja and rooms on its official portal. Aarti is a separate booking; check the reporting gate and required ID on the confirmation. Sai Ashram, Dwarawati and Bhakta Niwas are Trust accommodation options. The Trust specifically warns of fake booking sites and fake phone numbers on map listings.
Allow at least half a day for the shrine and local transfers, and considerably longer on festival days. Check the official temple source just before setting out; queues, hours, clothing requirements and security rules may change without much notice. A room reservation is not a darshan entitlement.
Dos and don’ts

Remove shoes and follow queue instructions; dress respectfully. Check current rules for phones, cameras, bags and flowers before entering. The Trust prohibits drinking, smoking and tobacco chewing on its premises. Do not buy passes from agents or send money to numbers found in unverified map listings.
Do: Carry only essential ID and small cash; arrive before any ticket reporting time; follow staff and posted signs; use official counters and ask for receipts; keep your hotel address in writing.
Don’t: Push in queues, photograph where prohibited, pay brokers for “VIP” access, leave valuables unattended, litter or assume that a visitor of another faith has the same access rules at every temple.
Before leaving your country
- Check passport validity and the visa or e-visa rules that apply to your nationality on India’s official visa portal. Keep your entry documents accessible. An OCI holder should carry the OCI document and linked passport.
- Book flights, a hotel and onward transport with time for delays. Temple bookings are separate from travel bookings. Keep an offline copy of confirmations and the original ID used for any temple reservation.
- Indian currency is the rupee (INR). Carry some small-denomination cash; a foreign card or overseas UPI account may not work at every counter. Obtain a local data connection or roaming and save offline maps.
- Wear comfortable clothing that covers shoulders and knees; carry a light scarf, socks for hot stone floors, drinking water and any regular medication. Store shoes and belongings only at staffed or clearly marked facilities.
