WASHINGTON: The Trump administration has proposed eliminating a longstanding protection in the US immigration adjudication process that allows H-1B visa holders and other foreign professionals to rely on previous petition approvals when seeking extensions, potentially exposing thousands of Indian workers to more extensive scrutiny even when their jobs and employers remain unchanged. The order defines birth tourism as a foreign national entering the United States on a nonimmigrant visa for the purpose of giving birth on U.S. soil, or another foreign national facilitating such an entry.
