Telangana to unveil master plan of Future City in December: Revanth
Telangana will unveil the master plan for its ambitious Bharat Future City at the Invest Telangana Global Summit in December, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said Thursday, outlining plans to turn the new urban district outside Hyderabad into a major hub for artificial intelligence, data centres, life sciences, electric vehicles, healthcare and education.
The state government plans to hold the Invest Telangana Global Summit-2026 from December 7 to 9 at Bharat Future City, according to an official Telangana government announcement.
Addressing the state's Praja Palana Dinotsavam celebrations on September 17, Reddy said Bharat Future City is being developed across nearly 30,000 acres as what the government describes as India's first net-zero smart city.
The planned city will include specialised zones for the Young India Skills University, life sciences, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, healthcare and education.
₹70,000-crore AI infrastructure project
One of the largest investments associated with Future City is a ₹70,000-crore project involving Tata Consultancy Services and HyperVault.
The Telangana government said last week that the planned campus will have 1 gigawatt of capacity across more than 250 acres and is intended to provide computing infrastructure for AI companies, hyperscalers and other global enterprises. The government estimates that the project could create about 7,000 direct and indirect jobs.
The facility is expected to incorporate high-performance computing, liquid cooling, green-energy infrastructure and a water-neutral design.
According to the state government, discussions that eventually led to the project began when Reddy met Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos in January 2026.
Reddy described the investment Thursday as a major step in Telangana's effort to establish Future City as an AI and advanced-computing hub.
Amazon breaks ground on Future City data centre
Amazon Web Services has also begun developing data-centre infrastructure at Bharat Future City.
Reddy participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the AWS project on July 15. The Telangana government said at the time that Amazon's investment connected with the project was $7 billion.
At that event, the chief minister urged Amazon to eventually raise its cumulative investment in Telangana to ₹1 lakh crore.
That distinction is important: while Reddy said Thursday that Amazon had begun construction with an investment of ₹1 lakh crore, the state's detailed July announcement described the Future City investment as $7 billion and ₹1 lakh crore as a broader cumulative investment target for Amazon in Telangana.
Telangana targets $3-trillion economy
Future City is a central component of the state government's longer-term Telangana Rising 2047 strategy.
Reddy has set a target of making Telangana a $1-trillion economy by 2034 and a $3-trillion economy by 2047. The government also wants Telangana's contribution to India's GDP to reach 10%.
The chief minister said Thursday that Telangana's per-capita income had reached ₹4,18,931, which he described as about 91% higher than the national average.
The government is seeking to combine Future City with a wider expansion of transportation and industrial infrastructure around Hyderabad and across the state.
Reddy cited the proposed Regional Ring Road, greenfield highways, dry ports and industrial corridors linking Hyderabad with Nagpur, Bengaluru and Vijayawada as projects that could reshape Telangana's economy.
Metro Phase II, new airports and Musi project
Reddy said the state has submitted proposals to the central government for a 122.9-kilometre Hyderabad Metro Phase II expansion estimated to cost ₹38,595 crore.
He also said approvals had been secured for proposed airports at Adilabad and Mamnoor in Warangal and that land acquisition was underway.
The chief minister reiterated plans for the Musi Rejuvenation Project, under which the government proposes to revive a 55-kilometre stretch of the river through Hyderabad.
He said road projects worth ₹13,000 crore under the Roads and Buildings Department and ₹6,294 crore under the Panchayat Raj Department were already under implementation.
September 17 marked as People's Governance Day
Reddy made the announcements during Praja Palana Dinotsavam, or People's Governance Day, marking September 17, 1948, when the princely Hyderabad State became part of the Indian Union following the Indian military operation known as Operation Polo.
Reflecting on the period, Reddy said Hyderabad had made significant advances in industry, agriculture, education and healthcare under the Nizam while rural Telangana also experienced severe feudal exploitation and bonded labour.
He referred to the movements led by the Andhra Mahasabha and Hyderabad State Congress as well as the Communist-led armed struggle and opposition to the Razakars.
Reddy said the state observes September 17 as Praja Palana Dinotsavam because Hyderabad's integration into India marked both the end of princely rule and a transition toward democratic government.
Rainfall deficit poses immediate challenge
Alongside the government's long-term investment plans, Reddy acknowledged more immediate concerns over deficient rainfall and increasing electricity demand.
He said the administration was planning ahead to prevent disruptions to drinking-water and power supplies and appealed for public cooperation.
The chief minister also highlighted the government's efforts against food adulteration and illegal drugs, including TG Safe — the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs — and the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement, or EAGLE.
But the biggest economic announcement of Thursday's address was the December unveiling of the Bharat Future City master plan.
With major data-centre and AI infrastructure investments already being developed or planned, the summit is expected to provide greater detail on how Telangana intends to build the new city and integrate it with Hyderabad's rapidly expanding technology economy.
